A Year Later

Wow, A year has past since I was last on here, so much has happened this past year, good and bad... We lost our nephew, Mike to his battle with cancer on February 7th. He was just 31 yrs old and had 5 darling children. He had been divorced and had full custody of them, but the mother has stepped up to the plate and taken the kids back.. I pray that she is doing this for all the right reasons, those children need a Mother, now more than ever. God be with them. We also lost our brother-in-law (also my 2nd cousin) Jerry, to cancer on August 17th. So has not been a good year in that respect.
Our son and his family went through a painful divorce. I never dreamt how hard these things can be, even for us as parents and grandparents, so hard to watch the ones we love and hold so dear to our hearts go through so much sorrow and pain. It has been a real roller coaster of events. Shane started seeing a close friend of his in March, and they have since been making a home together. Melanie has two children, so his family has grown. They have been keeping very busy by trying to fix up the house, inside and out along with helping the kids through this ordeal. It seems the ones that always get hurt the worst in these situations is the kids. My heart goes out to them, I find it awful hard to keep my mouth shut at times. There has been many times when I thank God for helping me by putting His hand over my mouth. I Know that I can only leave my concerns in God's hands, He is in charge as these kids need to live their own lives and make their own decisions. I only wish that some of my relatives could be half as thoughtful. But instead, they have managed to cause a lot of trouble, hard feelings, and torn our family apart by insisting on spreading lies and being deceitful. So much drama, that we would all be so much better off without.
On a much brighter note: The highlight of this year was the marriage of our daughter, Shelly to Darby Dokken on June 12th at the Penturen Church "The Church in the Pines". It's a little pioneer church that is about 12 miles further into the woods from our place. A beautiful place for a wedding. If I can figure out how to post a couple pictures, I will do that, as we got some awesome pictures. The weather could not have been any nicer. They had a small wedding followed by a reception and dance at the American Legion in Roseau. We had a wonderful time. We welcome Darby and his family into ours with open hearts and arms and look forward to sharing lots of fun times making happy memories with these people.
Things are going along very well with Shane's family now, we are enjoying our times getting to know and growing to love Melanie and her two children, Bryant (15 yrs) and Mikenna (13 yrs). I look forward to many happy times with them and a bright future for them as well.
OUR GRANDCHILDREN:
Kodie, Shane's oldest daughter, is in her second year at Northland Community College in Thief River Falls. She is also working at Super One Grocery. She has been through a tough year and probably taken the divorce the hardest, but is doing much better now and going to come through this with flying colors. She is a strong, beautiful gal with a heart of gold. She will be 20 yrs old in Feb. Can hardly believe how fast the time goes.
Kayla is Shelly's daughter. Turned 16 yrs old last March. She is a junior in Roseau High School this year. She got her driver's license and her first job this year. She works at the Roseau Hospital in the kitchen, she loves he job, or maybe it is all the money she is making, don't know, but my guess would be on the money. She is a beautiful gal, and has more boyfriends than I could imagine. She was born on my Dad's birthday and I think she probably got a lot of his sense of humor, she loves to laugh and have fun, and if she can think of a way to play a trick on you, she will do it in a heartbeat and love every second of it.
Kassandra is Shane's second daughter. She also turned 16 this year and got her drivers license as well. She is working at the Pamida store and really loves her job. She is a very busy gal, is in band, track, speech, mock trial, FCCLA, and I don't know what all else. Don't know how she keeps up with it all and is on the A honor roll to boot. She is also beautiful and the boys are coming around...
She loves to read, and whenever she has a spare minute you can be sure you'll find her with a book.
Then there is Hunter, Shane's youngest. He turned 11 yrs old December 3rd. He is our wrestler so will be starting to follow him around by the end of January as that season gets under way. He got to hunt this year for the first time (legally) and shot his first deer. So that was quite exciting. There is never a dull moment when he comes around..
We love our family with all our heart, and pray for the best of health, love and happiness for them all.
As for Wayne and I, we are enjoying our home in the woods, & go for rides and look for wildlife when we get the chance. Seems the older I get the more I find the important things in life are not things at all. So easy for us to overlook what truly is important. My prayer for this year is PEACE in our family and this world. I have peace in my heart and would love for my family to be able to enjoy that same peace.
I am going to try to do a whole lot better at this writing thing this year, we will see. But for now I think it about bedtime for this old gal. So until next time goodnight all..
